Trauma Program Director - Portsmouth, NH







The Trauma Program Director will coordinate care for trauma patients, ensuring continuity throughout the pre-hospital, hospital, and post-hospital phases. As the Director of the comprehensive trauma program, this individual will be responsible for organizing services and systems necessary for a multidisciplinary approach to providing care to injured patients. The primary responsibilities include:




Survey Readiness: Providing education and preparation for hospital staff regarding American College of Surgeons (ACS) guidelines for ACS verification and re-verification, utilizing the most recent edition of the ACS Guidebook, Resources for Optimal Care of the Injured Patient.




Clinical Activities: Coordinating management across the continuum of trauma care, including planning and implementing clinical protocols and practice management guidelines, monitoring care of in-hospital patients, and serving as a resource for clinical practice.




Education Responsibilities: Providing intra-facility and regional professional staff development, participating in case reviews, implementing practice guidelines, and directing community trauma education and prevention programs. Organizing and participating in conferences related to healthcare for trauma patients.




Performance Improvement: Monitoring clinical processes, outcomes, and system issues related to the quality of care provided, developing quality filters, audits, and case reviews, identifying trends and sentinel events, and outlining remedial actions while maintaining confidentiality.




Administration: Managing, as appropriate, the operational, personnel, and financial aspects of the trauma program. Serving as a liaison to administration and representing the trauma program on various hospital and community committees to enhance and foster optimal trauma care.




Supervision of the Trauma Registry: Supervising collection, coding, scoring, and developing processes for validation of data. Designing the registry to facilitate performance improvement activities, trend reports, and research while protecting confidentiality.




Consultant and Liaison: Stabilizing the complex network of many disciplines that work in concert to provide high-quality care. Serving as an internal resource for staff in all departments and acting as a liaison for EMS agencies.




Research: Having an active involvement in research projects and the analysis and distribution of findings. Facilitating protocol design for accurate data collection, feedback, and analysis.




Community and National Involvement in Trauma Care Systems: Participating in the development of trauma care systems at the community, state, or national level.




Management: Conducting regular meetings with direct reports to set expectations consistent with the goals of the organization and the department. Scheduling work, ensuring adequate staffing, and evaluating performance in relation to department objectives and established standards. Applying policies consistently, fairly, and equitably. Achieving results through subordinates, successfully recruiting, interviewing, selecting, and training staff to build a cohesive and effective team.




Requirements:

- Bachelor of Science in Nursing

- Three years of clinical experience in trauma/emergency care

- Registered professional nurse in the state of New Hampshire or with another state board of nursing, followed by immediate registration for New Hampshire license

- TNCC, ENPC/PALS, ACLS, BCLS certified; Instructor status preferred

- MUST BE A DIRECTOR OF TRAUMA

- 5-25 patients daily

- 1600 activation levels
