Job Description
This Registered Nurse – Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit position is based in Houston, TX at a 420+ bed hospital founded in 1976 as the first facility in Texas dedicated to the health of women and newborns. The unit is a brand-new, 14-bed Pediatric CICU program projecting 50–70 cases in its first year, caring for pediatric patients one year of age and older at a 2:1 nurse-to-patient ratio.
The role. Nurses in this unit deliver direct patient care within the scope of the Nurse Practice Act, with a primary focus on pediatric cardiac ICU patients. Responsibilities center on developing, implementing, and continuously evaluating individualized plans of care while maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment. Nurses participate actively in unit initiatives and process improvement efforts, and integrate patient and family education throughout every aspect of care. New hires benefit from a comprehensive 18-week training and orientation program designed to support success in this developing program. Candidates with Children's Hospital background are preferred.
What we're looking for.
- Active RN license (Registered Nurse)
- Associate Degree in Nursing required at minimum; BSN required with enrollment within 6 months of hire and completion within 24 months (Magnet designation requirement)
- Minimum 1 year of recent Pediatric ICU RN experience in an acute care hospital
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) must be obtained within 6 months of employment start date
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) must be obtained within 6 months of employment start date
- CCRN certification preferred
Schedule. Full-time nights with rotating weekends; shift options are 7:00 PM–7:00 AM or 11:00 PM–11:00 AM.
Compensation. $42.03 - $65.10/hr plus $4 sign-on bonus
