Registered Nurse - Medical/Surgical

A medical-surgical (med-surg) nurse is responsible for providing care to adult patients before and after surgical procedures, as well as managing various medical conditions. The key responsibilities of a med-surg RN include:

Administering medications and performing treatments as ordered by physicians
Providing wound care and changing dressings
Assessing patient conditions and monitoring vital signs
Operating and maintaining medical equipment like IVs, catheters, oxygen devices
Documenting patient care, assessments, and progress in medical records
Educating patients and families on procedures, conditions, and post-operative care
Collaborating with the healthcare team on patient care plans and discharge planning

Med-Surg nurses work in various healthcare settings like hospitals, outpatient clinics, nursing homes, and home healthcare services caring for patients with diverse conditions like traumatic injuries, joint replacements, infections, and chronic illnesses. They play a vital role in ensuring patient safety, providing quality care, and supporting recovery before and after surgical interventions.
