Hospital Laboratory Director
Job Description
A Hospital Laboratory Director opportunity is available in Nashville, TN with a laboratory services network supporting more than 250 acute and rehab hospitals, physician practices, surgery centers, and commercial accounts across multiple divisions.
The role. Reporting into laboratory leadership, the Director has full operational accountability for a hospital-based clinical laboratory, overseeing compliance with CAP, JCAHO, CLIA, FDA, and CMS standards while setting and executing department strategies across service, quality, regulatory, financial, and personnel goals. The Director leads all aspects of staffing — from hiring and orientation through competency assessment and performance management — and builds team capability through ongoing coaching, feedback, and delegated development opportunities. Financial stewardship is a core responsibility: the Director monitors resource utilization, identifies variances, adjusts to meet fiscal targets, and prepares the Monthly Operating Review report. The role also manages key vendor relationships and supply contracts in coordination with central supply chain guidance, and drives a structured internal communication plan to keep department personnel well informed and engaged in continuous improvement.
What we're looking for.
- Baccalaureate Degree in Medical Technology, Biomedical Science, Biology, or Chemistry required
- Master's Degree preferred
- National Certification as a Medical Technologist required
- State license where required (CA, FL, LA, NV, TN) — required for submission
- 3+ years or more of progressive laboratory management experience is required with complex laboratory operations
- Leadership experience required
- Hospital clinical laboratory experience preferred
- This role requires you to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 based on local, state and/or federal law or regulations (unless a medical or religious exemption is approved)
Schedule. Full-time, day shift, no weekends.
Compensation. $93,000 - $120,000 per year plus $10,000 sign-on bonus
