Job Description
A Director of Surgical Services opportunity is available in San Jose, CA at a 388-bed community hospital that has earned five consecutive Outstanding Achievement Awards from the Commission on Cancer and holds a Primary Stroke Center designation. The surgical program operates 12 operating rooms across key service lines including General, Spine, Orthopedics, Open Heart, and Neurosurgery, supported by a robust robotics platform that includes two Globus systems, two Mako systems, one Rosa system, and four da Vinci systems (two Xi, one DV5, and one SP).
The role. Reporting to the VP of Surgical Services, the Director holds full operational responsibility for the OR, leading a team of approximately 50–55 FTEs alongside one direct-report Manager. The Director drives evidence-based clinical practice, manages variation to improve efficiency and outcomes, and ensures ongoing compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards. A meaningful part of the role involves collaborating with physicians and the administrative team to sustain and grow existing service lines, while managing labor, scheduling, productivity, and operating expenses through active participation in the annual budget process. The Director also champions patient throughput and care coordination by overseeing flow processes and resource management across the surgical environment.
What we're looking for.
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing required
- Master's Degree preferred
- Minimum 1 year of recent leadership experience in Surgical Services at the Director or strong Manager level required
- Minimum 3 years of applicable Surgical Services clinical experience required
Schedule. Full-time, day shift with rotating weekends.
Compensation. $184,683 - $276,848 per year plus Incentive Bonus of Up To 17.5%
