Job Description
A Director of Emergency Services opportunity is available in Austin, TX at a 460+ bed, multi-specialty, acute care hospital featuring a 24-hour emergency department, pediatric emergency care, a Level IV Epilepsy Center, and a Heart and Vascular Center, among a broad range of acute care services.
The role. Reporting into hospital leadership, this director oversees a portfolio spanning a main emergency department with 42 beds seeing approximately 180 patients daily, a surgical hospital emergency department, and four freestanding emergency departments — with two managers in place overseeing the freestanding sites — totaling a team of roughly 100 FTEs. The director is responsible for volume forecasting, patient flow coordination, and admission and discharge planning to ensure efficient, high-quality care delivery across all sites. This role drives clinical quality by identifying and implementing evidence-based practices, managing variation in clinical practice, and ensuring adherence to regulatory and accreditation standards. The director also leads financial stewardship through active participation in the annual budget process, labor management, productivity monitoring, and identification of cost-reduction opportunities. Building strong interdisciplinary partnerships — including close collaboration with the medical director — and developing and retaining a high-performing nursing team are central expectations of the position.
